What Should Be in My Compost?
Compost requires three ingredients for the most effectiveness. These ingredients are the following:
browns (dead leaves, branches, stems)
greens (fruit and vegetables, grass and leaves, plants)
water
For the most effectiveness, alternate the brown and green layers combined with plenty of water. The brown material is rich in carbon, the green material produces nitrogen, and the water assists in the decay of the organic material.
